Pure Chardonnay coming from a meaner terroir, this is Moussé's NV Extra Brut Anecdote Lieu Dit Les Varosses, a wine that roots in deep-green clay soils and was disgorged with five grams per liter of dosage in August 2017. Tasted in January 2019, this bright, citrus-yellow colored Champagne offers a deep and intense yet very precise nose. Rich and concentrated on the palate, this is a full-bodied yet linear and mineral wine with a very long and tensioned, well-structured and salty finish. Still terribly young, it will be years before this Anecdote will show us its climax. Very elegant and balanced but full of tension, finesse and energy. A great Champagne.

Schimmerndes Hellgold.

A harmonious, mineral-driven Champagne, offering a chalky underpinning. This wraps a bright beam of acidity in the fine and creamy mousse, which carries notes of yellow apple, whole grain toast, dried currant and lemon curd. Lingering, salty finish. Disgorged February 2021. Drink now through 2027.

A beautifully layered nose combines plenty of yeast and brioche with those of pronounced yeast and green apple scents. There is excellent authority to the intense and relatively powerful flavors that are shaped by a generous if not especially refined effervescence, all wrapped in a sappy, delicious and highly complex finale that is not as dry as the dosage level would suggest. This clearly has ample levels of reserve wines in it as the depth is first-rate. If you enjoy full-on and full-flavored examples, this would be a good choice. By contrast, if you prefer more in the way of finesse and delicacy, I would choose something else.
